Agroecology Gardeners - Chestnut Hill Farm

Chestnut Hill Farm is seeking a volunteer to help maintain hedgerows recently planted in the crop fields and some other native plantings around the property. These hedgerows are made up of a variety of native shrubs, flowers and grasses. They will help create habitat for pollinators, provide a wind break and improve soil quality. This volunteer position involves weeding the hedgerows and some other beds of native grasses, pruning, spreading mulch and other general maintenance once a week. The schedule can be determined by the volunteer and the time commitment will vary depending on the month but generally no more than 1 or 2 hours a week. In the fall and spring it may only be necessary to visit every other week and work will pause during the winter.

Responsibilities: 

  • Weeding  

  • Pruning shrubs when necessary  

  • Spreading woodchip mulch 

Qualifications:  

  • Experience gardening 

  • Ability to identify plants and tell weeds from native flowers/grass

  • Ability to bend over and to kneel for extended periods of time
