Opportunity Overview:
Established in 1950,
deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is the largest park of its kind in New England encompassing 30 acres, 20 miles west of Boston. Providing a constantly changing landscape of large-scale, outdoor, modern and contemporary sculpture and site-specific installations, the Sculpture Park hosts more than 60 works, the majority of which are on loan to the Museum. Inside, the Museum features a robust slate of rotating exhibitions and innovative interpretive programming.
As a Park Ambassador, volunteers will stroll the park grounds sharing information about the park, answering general questions about events, programs and workshops while providing overall wayfinding information. Days and hours are flexible with preferred availability during peak visitation hours.
Reports to: Head of Visitor Services and Security, and other Trustees Staff
Qualifications:
- Have reliable transportation to the park
- Demonstrate good communication skills
- Desire to meet with the public, share knowledge of the park and the Trustees
- Dress in neat and appropriate clothes and footwear for varying weather conditions
- Flexible and independent
- Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces: grass, pavement, uneven surfaces
- Ability to pick up lightweight objects from ground level
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Note: a background check is required for this role
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Interact with visitors, answer questions about the park, events, programs and workshops
- Gather information from visitors for mailing lists and promotional outreach
- Promote the Trustees’ mission and provide membership information
- Assist with special programs on an occasional basis
- Assist with light property clean-up, if needed
- Assist with administrative projects such as updating bulletin boards, restocking pamphlets & flyers
- Observance of Trustees safety and COVID protocols
- Sign up for a shift
Time Commitment Needed:
We are looking for volunteers who are willing to work at least two, two-hour shifts each month.
