Plumbing Volunteer - BCG
Opportunity Overview:
Are you looking for a way to contribute your expertise in plumbing, while helping The Trustees to protect and care for special places of ecological, scenic, and historic importance? Then this volunteer opportunity may be for you! The staff of The Trustees staff within the Boston Community Gardens is seeking talented and experienced individuals with a background in plumbing to perform infrastructure repairs/renovations of various components of its properties’ plumbing and irrigation systems. Individuals should hold a current license in plumbing work, and be able to provide references if requested. The majority of this work will be carried out individually with several opportunities to work on larger projects and to assist or lead Trustees staff or volunteers. This position will be based at City Natives.
Reports to: Stewardship Manager
Covid-19 Volunteer Safety:
The health and safety of Trustees’ volunteers, staff and visitors is our top priority.
Minimum of 10 to 12 hours per month with a 3 month commitment. Flexible schedule. Ideally, volunteer would have some weekday availability to work alongside staff as needed.

- Provide professional advice concerning repairs or renovations of all plumbing system components
- Assist with design and scope of work on a variety of plumbing repairs or renovations
- Repair or renovate a variety of plumbing system components
- Clean up tools and materials after completion of work
- Keep workshop clean and organized
- Adhere to The Trustees’ safety and COVID-19 protocols
- Log volunteer hours in a timely fashion
- Ability to work with plumbing systems, materials, and tools
- Ability to follow plumbing plans and safety regulations
- Ability and willingness to climb ladders
- Ability to organize assigned tasks, for completion alone or with help
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Solid communication skills to update staff on project status and needs
- Traveling to other properties within the Management Unit may be necessary
- Current plumbing licensure and prior experience covering a variety of plumbing projects required
