Event Assistant - Haskell

Opportunity Overview:
The Lead Event Assistant role at Allen C. Haskell Public Gardens is a leadership position, reporting to and in volunteer partnership with paid staff colleagues which will often include managing volunteers. Responsibilities may include but are not restricted to assisting our staff by scheduling volunteers for events and workdays, providing information on upcoming opportunities, orienting volunteers to ‘day of’ projects and tasks, performing community outreach, communicating with volunteers to celebrate their milestones such as birthdays and occasionally leading workdays. In addition, specific settings may have specific needs and responsibilities. This role includes on property responsibilities with additional projects which may be managed remotely.

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Work with Trustees’ staff and event organizers in running programs – classes in gardening, school visits, art classes, and concerts
  • Help with set-up (information table, chairs, display board, etc.)
  • Talk with visitors, answering questions about The Trustees and Trustees’ properties
  • Gather information from visitors for mailing lists and promotional outreach
  • Educate the public about the goals of The Trustees and encourage membership
  • Log volunteer hours in a timely fashion
Qualifications:
  • Have reliable transportation to the property
  • Ability to carry and set up table and chair, restock supplies
  • Desire to meet with the public, and share knowledge of The Trustees and The Trustees’ properties
  • Dress in appropriate clothes and footwear for varying weather conditions: hot and dry, cold or wet, etc.
  • Experience working with the public - youth and/or adults (desired, not required)
  • Knowledge of the Trustees and Trustees’ properties (desired, not required)
  • Knowledge of horticulture/gardening (desired, not required)
  • Basic computer skills including some experience with Microsoft products and social media apps
  • Please note: this role may require a background check
Time Commitment Needed
Approximately two to four hours per week. Three months initial commitment preferred
