Opportunity Overview:
Appleton Farms is looking for volunteers to assist the Livestock Educator with daily chores and operations concerning our education livestock herd consisting of chickens, baby goats (kids) and calves. This opportunity is great for adults and responsible teens with the commitment to keeping our animals healthy and happy.
We require at least a 3 month commitment with a regular, weekly schedule to take part in this opportunity. The ideal candidate will have availability for 2 shifts per week. Training provided.
Currently we are in need of volunteers for the following shifts:
- Thursday mornings 8-11am
- Saturday mornings 8-11am
Reports to: Livestock Educator
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Feed and providing fresh water
- Occasionally assisting with bottle feeding
- Muck stalls, sweep barn spaces, and scrub water buckets
- Groom animals
- Collect eggs and clean chicken coop on occasion
- Organize and restock feed and supplies
- Assist with pasture rotation and herd management
- Occasionally assist with moving electric fence
- Communicate effectively with staff and other volunteers
- Adhere to The Trustees safety and COVID-19 protocols
- Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
- Have excellent communication skills
- Friendly and outgoing personality
- Have reliable transportation to the Farm
- Enjoy working with people
- Ability to lift 30 lbs or more
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently with staff near by
- Comfortable to ask questions if unclear of chore
- Ability to commit for 3 months or more to the same 2-4 hour shift at a minimum of once per week; the ideal candidate will be able to commit to 2 shifts per week
- Interest in working in a barn environment
- Interest in providing the best care for our livestock
- Desire to learn how a farm is run
- Minimum age: 18 years old. Under 18 years old will require parent/guardian supervision
- Please note: A background check may be required for this role
Time Commitment:
Shifts available 7 days a week:

- 8:00 am – 11:00 am
- 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
