Opportunity Overview:
Combine your love of the outdoors with service, by working with a team of stewards to perform caretaking activities at Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge on Nantucket.  This volunteer position requires beach driving in your own vehicle.  It includes reporting observations and light trail maintenance and allows the volunteer to work with and learn from other conservation-minded people.

Covid-19 Volunteer Safety
  • The health and safety of Trustees volunteers and staff is our top priority.

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Provide visitors with information, answering questions as needed
  • Represent The Trustees and all rules and regulations
  • Educate visitors on property rules and regulations
  • Refer visitors to staff as appropriate
  • Maintain communication with staff and other volunteers
  • Complete patrol report after every visit
  • Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Have reliable 4x4 transportation to property
  • An interest in conservation
  • Ability and willingness to work on the property
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and also independently
  • Dress in appropriate field clothes and footwear for varying weather conditions: hot and dry,
    cold or wet, etc.
  • Observance of Trustees safety protocol
  • Ability to approach all beach goers with respect and politeness
  • Ability Lift up to 15 lbs.
Desired:
  • Knowledge of any or all of the following: history, landscape architecture, gardening/farming, and/or ecology of the area
  • Have a valid OSV permit
  • Good communication skills
  • Open to engaging visitors when appropriate
Time Commitment Needed:
At least 4 hours per patrol, 2 days per week or as agreed by refuge manager (can be year round).
