CSA Packing Volunteer - Mobile Market

Opportunity Overview:
The Trustees Mobile Farmers Market is an innovative local food delivery program on wheels, designed to bring fresh, local food from Trustees and other Massachusetts farms to Boston neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food. The market carries a wide selection of seasonal vegetables and fruit, sourcing mainly from Powisset Farm in Dover, just 15 miles from Boston, as well as our other Trustees farm and some other local farm partners. We work with community partners like Dimock Health Center, Roxbury YMCA, and Whitter Street Health Center, among other organizations. We are currently recruiting several volunteers to assist with the distribution of fresh produce. Come join our team and combine your love of local, sustainable, fresh, and healthy food with service, by helping our mobile farmers market team deliver vegetables to communities in Boston.
 
Available shifts are:
Wednesday................. 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Reports to: Mobile Market & Delivered Shares Program Manager

Covid-19 Volunteer Safety:

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):
  • Prep for CSA distribution by packing harvested vegetables in to bags to be delivered to customers’ homes.
  • Communicate with our farmer and other staff to harvest or fetch vegetables in appropriate locations to prevent contamination by birds/pests/spoilage
  • Adhere to The Trustees safety and COVID-19 protocols
  • Sign-up for available shifts
Qualifications:
  • Good communication skills and friendly demeanor with all staff, other volunteers, and customers
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to carry 45 lb box/basket
  • Standing/Sitting for periods of time
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces including grass, paved walkways, stairs
  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Please note: A background check may be required for this role
Time Commitment
This role takes place at Powisset Farm in Dover. Position lasts from June 2022 – March 2023. Volunteers are requested to commit to a 3 month commitment.
