Stewardship Lead Volunteer - Appleton Farms

The Stewardship Lead Volunteer is a leadership position, reporting to and in volunteer partnership with paid staff colleagues which will often include managing volunteers. Responsibilities may include but are not restricted to assisting our staff by scheduling volunteers for workdays, providing information on upcoming workdays, orienting volunteers to ‘day of’ projects and tasks, performing community outreach, communicating with volunteers to celebrate their milestones such as birthdays and occasionally leading workdays. In addition, specific settings may have specific needs and responsibilities. This role will include remote and on-property responsibilities.

Reports to: Stewardship Staff

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Assist with scheduling volunteers for workdays and events
  • Assist with community outreach
  • Assist with ‘day of’ events and workdays to orient volunteers to projects and tasks
  • Assist with volunteer appreciation and recognition events
  • Orient new volunteers to the property
  • Train new volunteers on our volunteer management system, Volunteer Connect
  • Occasionally lead workshops and workdays
  • Educate the public about the goals of the Trustees and the benefits of being a Trustees’ member
  • Communicate regularly with staff
  • Adhere to The Trustees Covid-19 safety guidelines and protocol
  • Log volunteer hours weekly
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of any of the following: local history, ecology, conservation, trail maintenance and sustainable practices [preferred, not required]
  • Prior event management experience [preferred, not required]
  • Have reliable transportation to the property
  • Desire to meet with the public, and share knowledge of The Trustees
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with the public (desired, not required)
  • Ability to walk on varying surfaces including grass, pathways and trails
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Personal computer with reliable internet and phone for performing remote projects
  • Experience with Microsoft programs [including Word, PowerPoint and Excel]
  • Please note: A background check may be required for this role
Time Commitment Needed:
Flexible, working with property and department staff to create a mutually beneficial schedule. The ideal candidate would be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
