Opportunity Overview:
Come join a vibrant group of staff and volunteers at
Appleton Farms in Ipswich! Rolling grasslands, grazing livestock, stone walls, vegetable crops, and historic farm buildings comprise this 1,000-acre pastoral landscape, offering a rare glimpse into New England’s agricultural past. This volunteer position would assist the staff in processing and splitting wood to be used for a number of purposes including for our wood-fired pizza oven. Staff are dedicated to volunteers, sharing knowledge and experience.
Please note: The ideal candidate should be at least 18 years old.
Reports to: Stewardship Manager

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Participate in safety demonstration
- Use a hydraulic log splitter to split wood
- Assist with stacking wood
- Communicate regularly with stewardship and other Trustees staff
- Abide by all safety standards
- Adhere to The Trustees safety and COVID-19 protocols
- Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
- Training will be provided
- Once trained, demonstrate safety awareness when using a log splitter
- Desire to be outside in the varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working outdoors
- Able to work on a team and/or independently
- Minimum age: 18 years old
Time Commitment Needed:
Volunteers are needed during weekdays. We’re flexible and can work with your schedule to select a specific day.
