Opportunity Overview:
Rolling grasslands, grazing livestock, stone walls, vegetable crops, and historic farm buildings comprise this 1,000-acre pastoral landscape, offering a rare glimpse into New England’s agricultural past. Appleton Farms is looking for volunteers to assist the livestock staff with daily chores and operations. This opportunity is great for adults and responsible teens with the commitment to keeping our animals healthy and happy. We require at least a
6 month commitment with a regular schedule to take part in this opportunity. Training provided.
Reports to: Dairy & Livestock Manager and Stewardship Staff

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Feed our sheep, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, and bunnies
- Muck stalls, sweep barn spaces, and scrub water buckets
- Groom animals
- Collect eggs and clean chicken coop on occasion
- Organize and restock feed and supplies
- Minor carpentry, cleaning, and various projects
- Communicate effectively with staff and other volunteers
- Adhere to The Trustees safety and COVID-19 protocols
- Log volunteer hours
Qualifications:
- Have excellent communication skills
- Friendly and outgoing personality
- Have reliable transportation to the Farm
- Enjoy working with people
- Ability to lift 30 lbs or more
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to work independently with staff near by
- Comfortable to ask questions if unclear of chore
- Ability to commit for 6 months or more to the same 2-4 hour shift once a week
- Interest in working in a barn environment
- Interest in providing the best care for our livestock
- Desire to learn how a farm is run
- Minimum age: 18 years old. Under 18 years old will require parent/guardian supervision
Time Commitment:
Morning and/or afternoon shifts available, Monday – Wednesday.
- Spring Shifts [April through August]
- 8:30 am – 10:00 am
- 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
- Fall Shifts [September]
- 8:00 am – 10:00 am
- 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
The ideal candidate will be able to commit to the same weekly schedule
