Visitor Services Volunteer - Notchview

Opportunity Overview:
With more than 3,000 acres of rolling terrain and miles of groomed ski trails, Notchview, a part of the Hoosac Range in the Berkshire Hills, offers an idyllic escape all year round — but especially in winter. Much of Notchview sits above 2,000 feet; Judge’s Hill, the highest point, is 2,297 feet. Most of the reservation is covered with a red spruce and northern hardwood forest.

Currently, we are seeking several Visitor Services Volunteers to help our staff and visitors. Volunteers will assist Rangers with welcoming guests to the property, educating visitors on The Trustees’ mission, assisting with parking kiosks and promoting memberships and programs statewide. This is a flexible volunteer role, prefer availability during peak visitation on weekends – weekday shifts may be available.

Note: the ideal candidate must be over 18.

Requirements (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Provide an excellent experience for members, visitors, and their families
  • Greet and direct visitors outside the Visitor Center
  • Educate the public about the goals of the Trustees and the benefits of being a Trustees’ member
  • Share passion for the outdoors
  • Assist with equipment rental, distribute member passes
  • Assist groups associated with races and youth leagues.
  • Work independently or together with other volunteers and staff
  • Additional responsibilities will vary but may include wayfinding and providing additional guest information
  • Help keep wood stove fire burning (special training required, optional)
  • Adherence to Trustees Covid-19 safety guidelines and protocol
  • Potential to volunteer on weekdays, following heavy snow days.

Qualifications:
  • Have reliable transportation to the property
  • Desire to meet with the public, and share knowledge of The Trustees
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Experience working with the public (desired, not required)
  • Ski experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to walk on varying surfaces including grass, pathways, snow and trails
  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Please note: a background check is required for this role
Time Commitment:
Flexible 4 hours shifts, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays, during peak visitation hours (Between 10am – 2p). Volunteers will work closely with property staff. Shifts may change based on weather conditions.
