Events & Public Programs - deCordova

Opportunity Overview:
Join us at deCordova Events as a volunteer! As an events and programs volunteer, you will help support the many events hosted by deCordova: Summer Performances, Community Days, and Arts and Ales events. Volunteers will work with staff to greet guests, help provide directions, run activities, and assist in set up and break down. Established in 1950, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is the largest park of its kind in New England encompassing 30 acres, 20 miles west of Boston. Providing a constantly changing landscape of large-scale, outdoor, modern and contemporary sculpture and site-specific installations, the Sculpture Park hosts more than 60 works, the majority of which are on loan to the Museum. Inside, the Museum features a robust slate of rotating exhibitions and innovative interpretive programming.

Reports to: Public Programming & Education Manager, and other Trustees Staff

Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):
  • Welcoming visitors, checking in guests and helping answer questions about the park and museum
  • Gather information from visitors for mailing lists and promotional outreach
  • Promote the Trustees’ mission and provide membership information
  • Assist with light property clean-up, if needed
  • Assist with administrative projects such as updating bulletin boards, restocking pamphlets & flyers
  • Assist with set up and clean up, including the ability to lift tables and chairs
  • Communicate effectively with staff and other volunteers
  • Observance of Trustees safety and COVID protocols
  • Sign up for an event
Qualifications:
  • Have reliable transportation to the park
  • Demonstrate good communication and customer service skills
  • Desire to meet with the public, share knowledge of the park and the Trustees
  • Dress in neat and appropriate clothes and footwear for varying weather conditions
  • Flexible and independent
  • Familiarity with deCordova Sculpture and Museum [preferred, but not required]
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces: grass, pavement, uneven surfaces
  • Ability to pick up lightweight objects from ground level
  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • Note: a background check may be required
