Ravenswood Park Trail Stewardship Training

Do you love your Trustees trails? Interested in giving back to your local Trustees property? If you want to learn how to monitor and maintain trails and be a part of the Trustees trail community, join us on April 14th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Ravenswood Park, Gloucester, MA to learn what goes on behind the scenes to make the trails look great. This is only for volunteers interested in making a regular commitment to trails and becoming a member of our volunteer trail team. The training will orient you, train you and get you ready for a longer term commitment.

You'll learn how to monitor trails, how to provide basic property care, how to engage with visitors as a Trustees ambassador; you'll learn what issues to look for while out on a property, how to report major trail issues and how to perform the basics of trail maintenance.

As a Trustees Trail Steward, you'll become part of a network of volunteers helping to keep the trails safe and inviting for all visitors. You'll walk the trails on a regular basis and perform maintenance throughout the season. By joining the Trustees Trail Corps, you'll also be able to learn more about trails and gain skills like blazing, structure building, tread maintenance and much more.

Join us for the Trails Stewardship Training on April 14th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. This training will be 2 parts: "Classroom" learning where you'll learn baseline standards of Trustees trails, how to monitor and maintain trails on a regular schedule, how to report major issues as well as safety, tools, terminology and how to grow with our trails program.

The second part of the day will be spent out on the trails learning the basics of maintaining a trail corridor from encroaching vegetation and best practices for pruning and brushing along a trail.

Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite hand pruners, loppers or hand saw if you wish!

Bring your own water bottle, snacks, work gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray. We recommend comfortable shoes that you can hike in, and long pants & sleeves that you don’t mind getting dirty.
